Celebrating diversity: The 8th World Congress on Active Ageing

13 – 17 August 2012, Glasgow

This world congress will celebrate the diversity of ageing, the benefits and availability of physical activity and exercise opportunities for those entering old age.

The congress will be of interest to those working in the biological, behavioural and social sciences as well as the fields of medicine, physical and recreational therapy, health, sport and exercise sciences, health education, leisure and recreation and the social and caring services.

The early registration deadline is March 2012.

The European Anti-Poverty Network releases book on participation

The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) has published a new book, ‘Breaking Barriers – Driving Change: case studies of building participation of people experiencing poverty’.
The book outlines 15 examples of particular approaches taken by EAPN members to enhance the direct participation in organisational structures and policy-making of people experiencing poverty or social exclusion.

Disability Activation Project 2012 – 2015: Call for Applications & Information Sessions

The Minister for Social Protection has announced a call for applications under the Disability Activation Project. The Disability Activation Project is co-funded by the European Union under the European Social Fund (Human Capital Investment Operational Programme 2007 – 2013) and the Irish Government. The funding, which will be available for projects in the Border, Midlands and Western (BMW) region will be administered by the Department of Social Protection with the support of Pobal.

Applications for strategic and innovative projects in the Border, Midlands and Western region are invited from organisations who have experience of working with people with a disability. Projects can be funded up until 30 April 2015. Closing date for applications is Friday 13 April 2012.

Communicating Europe Initiative – Funding available

Applications for events that celebrate Europe Day on 9 May are now being accepted.

Activities funded in the past have included school initiatives, educational projects and seminars, as well as community-based, business-led and national civil society projects.

The closing date for applications will be Friday, 9 March 2012.

The Ray Murphy Memorial Bursary

The purpose of the bursary is to support post-graduate research in the areas of social finance and philanthropy and related areas.  

In 2012, the Bursary Committee will prioritise research in the area of social finance but proposals for research in the other relevant areas will be accepted.

THE HOOKUP: EU Contact Making Seminar

Dates: 23 – 26 February
Venue: Isaac’s Hotel, Cork

The HOOKUP links Irish young people and organisations to potential partners across Europe working in similar fields and who are interested in hosting volunteers.

It will focus on connecting creative volunteers and organisations who are interested in arts and multimedia. It is supported by Youth in Action programme and Leargas (Irish National Agency).
